About

Slievemore Editions

Slievemore Editions began as a small-batch fine art printmaking studio and has naturally evolved into a space where photography and creative exploration thrive. Founded by photographer and printer Stephen Russell Shilling, it draws its name and inspiration from Slievemore (Sliabh Mór), a striking mountain on Achill Island. Like the mountain and the island it belongs to, the studio embodies a quiet strength, a connection to nature, and a love for timeless beauty.

When I first visited Achill Island in 2013, it left an indelible mark on me. Like much of Ireland’s western coast, Achill is a weathered place, shaped by the wind and rain sweeping in from the Atlantic. The island’s rugged landscapes, shifting light, and quiet resilience make even the simplest scenes—an old stone wall, a patch of grass, or a fleeting sunbeam—feel extraordinary. This interplay of natural forces and subtle beauty inspires everything I create at Slievemore Editions, from finely crafted prints to programs that celebrate mindful creativity.

At Slievemore Editions, the emphasis isn’t just on producing prints of exceptional beauty; it’s about fostering a deeper connection to photography as a way of seeing the extraordinary in the world around us. Photography is more than an art form—it’s a practice of observation, a means to uncover wonder in the everyday and to find joy in nature’s rhythms. Through this approach, I aim to encourage creativity that enriches both life and art, helping others to develop a more thoughtful and intentional way of seeing.

While I love printing—that moment when every adjustment has been made, and a finished work of art sits before you—what I truly value is helping others engage with photography on a deeper level. Photography has given me so much, and I want to share that gift. Beyond scanning and printing, I offer educational opportunities such as personalized one-on-one sessions, portfolio critiques, small-group classes, nature walks, and (eventually) destination workshops. Each is hands-on and experience-driven, designed to help participants deepen their relationship with photography and the world around them in ways that directly meet their specific needs. Whether you’re a seasoned professional, an emerging artist, or someone captivated by photography’s quiet magic, I’m here to help you refine your vision and bring it to life.

Stephen Russell Shilling

I grew up in Southern New Jersey, on the edge of the Pine Barrens, spending much of my childhood exploring the outdoors. After high school, I moved to New York City to study photography and fine art printing, where I spent countless hours photographing the streets.

Over the years, I’ve shot architecture, construction, portraits, products, and live events, and I assist on fashion/editorial shoots, ensuring everything runs smoothly. My work is all about telling stories—whether it’s of a place, a person, or a moment.

In 2013, I returned to New Jersey for a quieter life, where I now focus on fine art photography and run Slievemore Editions, a small scale, small-batch fine art print lab offering scanning, digital capture, and printing services.

I’m available for work worldwide, wherever the story takes me. For inquiries on commissions or collaborations, please use the contact form.
